Jon Secada - Same Dream [With Bonus Tracks]
- Jon Secada has not lost any of his passion or talent during the five years since his last English release. “Same Dream” takes a lot of turns while still holding together well. The country guitar of “All I Wanna Be” is immediately followed by “My Baby Don’t Rock Like That” a dance song that would fit right in on a Justin Timberlake album which is then followed by an ‘80s style pop-ballad and there is even a short rap on the track “Tender Love.” That’s a lot of tempo and style changes, but the album stays unified and beautifully constructed despite these seemingly inconsistent song choices.
The bonus tracks on the album are well worth checking out. Both of these bonus tracks are covers, “She’s All I Ever Had” made famous by Rickey Martin (which was co-written by Secada making it more of a reclamation than a cover) and also the classic hit “Coming Out of The Dark.” Both of these performances are well worth hearing for the flair Secada gives to his performance. They both compare favorably to the original recording and should be heard by anyone who enjoyed those songs.
“Same Dream” is a wonderfully eclectic mix of masterfully produced pieces. This is an album that should be heard by listeners both young and old. This is one well made CD everyone needs to respect.
